HEALING THROUGH BREATHWORK…

with Aléna Watters

Breathwork can be a powerful practice for releasing stress and getting more present in one’s body. Practicing active, intentional breathing can be calming and relaxing, or energizing and mood elevating; it can enhance mental clarity, help alleviate depression, and can often create a profound sense of connection with one’s self and the surrounding world. Conscious Breathwork can be a very effective way to move stuck energy in the body and create space for healing and growth in one’s life. This can be felt on both subtle and deep levels, and I am so grateful for the deep healing and expansion that Breathwork has brought to my life.

I became aware of intentional Breathwork practices through my training as a yogi and yoga practitioner over a decade ago, and then began an intermittent Breathwork journey with a variety of practitioners. After having many profound, enlivening, something core-shaking, and overall healing expansive experiences, I became fascinated with Breathwork as a healing modality. This led to a calling and desire to merge the tools that I have gathered over the course of my life’s journey into integrated healing offerings.

My name is Aléna Watters, and I’m a professional performing artist (singer/dancer/actor), who has been paid to perform onstage since I was 10 years old; I’ve been teaching dance and movement on and off since I was 16, have taught yoga for over a decade, and have long been integrating sounding and embodiment practices into my work. I have learned different styles with a variety of wonderful Breathwork practitioners, and am grateful that the Universe presented an opportunity for me to get certified in this medium, so that I can bring my flavor of this healing work into the world!

My vast experiences as an artist and my personal explorations into my own deep healing work have brought me to a well-rounded, grounded place of being able to hold safe space for others to dive into themselves. There are so many styles of Breathwork out there, and no one person can claim to have invented any one aspect of the ancient healing arts that I am implementing into my work. I have been certified in a process including a 2-step breathing technique (Revelation Breathwork), and have over a decade of personally experiencing and studying a variety of forms (Pranayama techniques, Unity Breathwork, Wim Hof, Conscious Connected Breathwork, Mother Wave, etc), which get intermingled with my own experience as an artist and yoga/movement teacher into my approach to Breathwork.

What makes my approach with Healing Watters different is that I’m bringing ancient healing and modern arts, plus basic neuroscience knowledge together to build a creative, exploratory, and holistic experience to healing. My intention is to create a space where others feel safe to be with themselves…a sacred playground for releasing that which is no longer serving us in mind, body, spirit or life. Depending on my clients’ needs and desires, I utilize a variety of techniques and explorations to encourage and guide others into the deep and nourishing waters of their own healing capacity.

Whatever the intention, and whatever the pace and flow, Breathwork - whether traditional or embodied practices- can be a wonderful tool for boosting our immune system and reducing overall stress. Utilizing simple and controlled breath patterns, we can access deep states of consciousness. One may drop into a state of general relaxation, and it’s possible to also uncover and release stored mental, emotional and/or physical stress, tension and trauma through this work. Breathwork can be a supportive and therapeutic tool for major transformation and healing. This is done by oxygenating the body, and increasing blood flow through the breath, which then allows us to bypass the conscious mind and access our neural networks, and allow the wisdom of the body to process old stress cycles that were previously incomplete within our physical bodies. Our self-healing capacity is amazing! Please note that, when dealing with deep trauma, it is best to work in tandem with a trained therapist as well. Know that whatever is ready to be released, your body can handle it; and you are always in control over the pace of each practice!

The structure of a session will depend on the person, the chosen session style, and the intention. We will use a combination of several techniques including yogic Pranayama Breathwork, active two-step transformational breathing techniques, and circular, flowing Conscious Connected Breathwork, with Sounding work and Embodiment practices. Each one on one session is customized around your needs. After a safety talk about what you may (or may not) feel during a session, we will share intentions, and then flow into your customized session. That may include mindful movement practices, sounding work, chakra releasing, grounding practices, and any other discussed explorations, along with guided breath practices. Since our moods, stress levels, and how our bodies feel can fluctuate, every session will feel different. Our general objective will be to create a safe-enough container of trust, intention, and witnessing, and to allow the body to flow with her/his/their own body-wisdom, with intuitive guidance.

Breathwork is such a powerful, simple, and wonderful practice- though not always easy. It can be a profound tool for accessing challenging parts of ourselves (that we don't always understand, or need to understand) that can be shifted and released; often times we will feel relieved and energized, and it’s also possible to experience the normal, though less common, sense of feeling more agitated, if we’re not quite ready to access something within our pain-body, and attempt to push through when our body requests slowing down; it’s important to listen to your body’s cues throughout, and to slow down when you need to, even if I am suggesting a different pace- always listen to your body first.

Whether you are seeking a way to gently relieve stress and relax into yourself, or if you desire a deeper dive into releasing stuck energy and patterns that are no longer serving you, I am capable of guiding you through the process. As a well-rounded healing facilitator with a great capacity for holding you through the sometimes uncomfortable and messy layers of the human experience, I am confident in my ability to create a safe-enough container for you to explore the Healing Wat(t)ers awaiting you!
